Arteta explains Pepe dressing down

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has spoken about his assistant Albert Stuivenberg’s public dressing down of forward Nicolas Pepe following the 2-1 win over Leeds United.

The Gunners No.2 let rip at Pepe in the immediate aftermath of the game after the striker missed a chance to take advantage of a late counter-attack. With Leeds chasing an equaliser, goalkeeper Ilan Meslier went forward for a corner that the Gunners were able to clear and launch an attack of their own – but after carrying the ball up to the halfway line Pepe was tackled after trying to turn back onto his preferred left foot.

Stuivenberg was left fuming afterwards and let rip at the forward – and it appears that Arteta agrees with his assistant.

But the Egyptian has force himself into Mikel Arteta’s plans in recent weeks, turning in some impressive performances during the wins over Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham United.

And after another impressive performance against Leeds United, it appears the club have been convinced into keeping him around for a little longer.

Aubameyang replacement found

Arsenal have “finally” found a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the form of Eddie Nketiah, according to Garth Crooks.

Nketiah could follow Aubameyang out of the exit door this summer with his contract at the Emirates set to expire at the end of the season. But after proving Arsenal’s matchwinner as he bagged a brace against Leeds United on Sunday, Crooks thinks the England under-21 forward could replace Aubameyang’s goalscoring threat up front.

The BBC pundit says Nketiah “has all the attributes that make a top player” – and Arsenal would be “crazy” to let him go.
