The Burial Register of any Victorian era cemetery reads like an encyclopedia of illnesses long forgotten or vanquished, strange diagnoses and sad tragedies.
Join Toronto Cemetery Tours on a brand new tour as we revisit the Toronto Necropolis, a beautiful example of a Victorian cemetery. Over the course of 2 hours you will learn about deadly outbreaks, unusual cures, and important medical advances.
Meet at the gates of the Necropolis on Winchester Street, across from Riverdale Farm. Be prepared for a two-hour walk over grass and uneven ground and wear appropriate footwear in case of mud.
This public tour is free to everyone and registration is not required.
Accessibility notes: This is an outdoor tour which moves at a medium pace, sometimes over rough, grassy, or muddy ground. There are no stairs or hills on this tour. There is nowhere to sit. The guide wears a small headset and speaker to be more easily heard by those present. Being an outdoor event with a large space to spread out, attendants are not required to wear masks or show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
June 25 and 26 at 1 pm. Free. Visit https://fb.me/e/3gk44wPwU for more details.
