Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar reminded senior citizens as well as individuals with chronic illnesses to get their second Covid-19 booster jab with a possible new wave of Covid-19 infections looming.

The Rembau MP said that there has been a surge in the number of cases reported both in Malaysia and Singapore in the last few days, with the number of cases soaring over 2,000 – including two new clusters reported at institutions of higher learning yesterday.

“So if we are not cautious, the cases will keep on increasing in the coming weeks,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.

Khairy had on Tuesday said that he expected the number of positive cases to increase while also adding that a potential new wave of infection may emerge in the next few months.

He said that similar situations are also reported in other nations as well.

“It is also my hope that those above 60 and those with chronic illnesses will take the second booster shot as this is the best way to keep them safe,” he said.

There have been 2796 new Covid-19 positive cases reported today, a slight increase from the total of 2425 new cases reported yesterday.
