Calgary members of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association were best in show in the 2022 National Awards for Housing Excellence on May 13, beating out hundreds of Canadian companies to capture two of the three major awards.
Calgary-based Jayman Built won the Design Excellence Award and developer Dream Unlimited was presented with the Marketing Excellence Award.
The third major award for Renovation Excellence went to a company in St. Thomas, Ont., Valleyburn Properties Corp.
“We were ecstatic to even be nominated for the CHBA National awards, with nine finalist nominations amongst the 800 submissions across Canada. To win four awards plus the Design Excellence Award was a huge honour and we couldn’t be prouder of our team,” said Larry Noer, president and COO, Jayman Built. “Our design team across both cities work exceptionally hard to create functional floor plans that don’t compromise style and uniqueness. The Design Excellence award was a pleasant surprise, as a culmination of everything we have worked towards. We did not expect to win this pinnacle award for residential housing in all of Canada — it is a testament to our team.”
Jayman also won three national awards for Calgary entries and one for an Edmonton submission. Dream Unlimited won Best Rendering in the marketing category plus the Marketing Excellence Award for promotion of its Alpine Park community.
“The story was the story of the neighbourhood. Alpine Park is such a unique project and it was a fun exercise to highlight that. Sometimes, you can get too tied up with development concepts and we just ground it in day-to-day experiences of life, painting a vision of what Alpine Park would offer people. Seems like it worked — we’re all thrilled,” said Michael Tandara, Dream director of marketing, Western Canada development.
In the New Home category, Jayman’s Cooper 20 model home won Best Detached Production Home under 1,800 square feet. The home features a sunken great room with a floor-to-ceiling fireplace and ceilings as high as 11 feet in the lower level.
For completed developments, Jayman’s Westman Village lives eternal, winning two awards; Best New Community and Best Mid-to-High Rise Building for its Calligraphy building. The award also recognized Norr Architects Engineers Planners.
University of Calgary Properties Group was presented with the Best Growing Community Award for University District, which launched in 2017.
“University of Calgary Properties Group is exceptionally proud of the community we are building in University District. The growth in less than five years is impressive with the increasing number and diversity of residents that include seniors. This recognition is a huge testament to the hard work and commitment of our team and partners who believe that we are building a landmark destination for people to thrive,” said James Robertson, president and CEO of University of Calgary Properties Group.
In addition to Jayman’s award in the Edmonton market for Best Detached Production Home 2,401 to 2,800 square feet, other winners to the north include Rohit Group of Companies for Stadium Yards (Best Signage); Canada Lands Co. for Village at Griesbach (Best Website); Averton for Midtown (Best Attached Low-Rise Home under 1,500 square feet) and Vicky’s Homes (Best Custom Kitchen).
