Vintage luxury bag reseller Vintage Sac MY recently shared on Facebook that a Lalamove delivery man allegedly stole a Louis Vuitton Locky BB Parcel in Blue Jean worth RM6,500.
A customer ordered the bag on 26 March 2022 and requested to have it delivered via Lalamove in a sealed parcel.
The driver texted the retailer to say that he has arrived at the store. Before passing the parcel to the man, the retailer did their due diligence and took a picture of the man.
However, the parcel was never delivered and the driver has gone missing. The retailer frantically called Lalamove to find out what was going on.
Lalamove tried to calm them down and assured Vintage Sec MY that the company would compensate for the loss.
Hours went by and the client still did not receive the parcel yet and the driver couldn’t be located.
Only refunded in credits
Lalamove finally emailed the retailer after 3 days and only agreed to compensate RM400 in credit.
The company also allegedly said Vintage Sac MY should have bought insurance coverage for the delivery.
Vintage Sac MY said they could not find any option to purchase insurance coverage on Lalamove app.
Vintage Sac MY explained that most online sellers would not take responsibility for any loss or damages caused by delivery companies.
Nevertheless, they refunded their client in full on the same night and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
They also voiced their disappointment with Lalamove because they’ve supported the delivery company since the first day of business.
This incident has diminished their trust in Lalamove. Instead, they’ve decided to explore other delivery companies and services such as Grab. They pointed out that Grab has the option to add insurance coverage.
Vintage Sac MY suggested users go through Lalamove’s terms and conditions carefully if they decide to deliver expensive items.
A police report has been made about the issue. Anyone who comes across the parcel with the datecode FL5108 should contact Vintage Sac MY.
Netizens share similar poor experiences
It seems like the retailer isn’t alone with poor service from Lalamove. Netizens voiced their poor experience with the delivery company too.
A netizen claimed that Lalamove drivers would ask to be reimbursed for the toll charges. The netizen declined to pay for it because toll charges should have been included in the delivery charge.
When she declined to pay, Lalamove drivers would leave her deliveries such as cakes under the hot sun. However, another netizen said that toll charges are borne by the customer.
Netizens also pointed out the driver’s casual clothes and said it was unprofessional. The driver who allegedly stole the Louis Vuitton bag turned up in a t-shirt and shorts.
A few netizens shared similar unprofessional habits of other drivers such as bringing their entire families with them while making deliveries, delivering items to the wrong house, and vanishing with catered food worth RM2,000.
Unlike Pos Malaysia, Lalamove employs contracted gig workers as delivery riders and drivers which could explain why they were not in uniforms.
In addition, a netizen revealed that there’s an app called Mod which can be allegedly used by anyone to bypass delivery systems and assign new drivers without being traced by hosts.
Another netizen advised Vintage Sac MY to hire their personal delivery runner to be safe.
Hopefully, this incident doesn’t happen to anyone else again.
