Man dead, minor charged after head-on collision in Rawdon

A 38-year-old man is dead and a minor has been charged following a head-on collision in Rawdon, in the Lanaudière region, north of Montreal.

Matawinie police and emergency services were sent to the scene following a call around 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The collision took place on Lac Morgan Rd., near Bélair Rd.

“According to early reports, the collision took place when a vehicle attempted to pass another car by using the lane for oncoming traffic,” said a Sûreté du Québec spokesperson.

The 38-year-old driver of the car coming in the other direction was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, but was declared dead upon arrival.

“Police proceeded to arrest the minor who attempted to pass, for dangerous driving causing death,” said the SQ representative.

The minor was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Investigators and accident reconstruction specialists were dispatched to the scene to establish the causes and circumstances of the accident.
