Ralf Rangnick previews Brentford clash

In less than 24 hours since Manchester United drew 1-1 with Chelsea on Thursday, interim manager Ralf Rangnick has agreed to become the new manager of the Austria national team, despite signing a two-year consultancy role at Old Trafford in November.

The German will juggle the two role’s side-by-side, but has since promised Man Utd fans that he is committed to helping the club become a dominant force once more, despite the news.

Erik ten Hag is due to take over from Rangnick on a permanent basis in the summer, as the Red Devils look to put a terrible season behind them and build for the future, and Rangnick aims to play a big part behind the scenes.

Here are Mirror Sport’s latest stories on Man Utd.

Rangnick hired as Austria boss

Ralf Rangnick has been hired as Austria boss but will go ahead with his two-year consultancy role at Manchester United, despite reports claiming that the German could leave Old Trafford altogether in the summer.

But the Red Devils interim boss will still move upstairs following his brief spell in the dugout with Erik ten Hag named as his successor as he will continue to advise the Dutchman while taking over at Austria, where he has signed a two-year contract which will be extended by a further two years should they qualify for Euro 2024 in Germany.

Rangnick confirmed the news in a statement, saying: “I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United. I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force.”

Ronaldo to leave Man Utd if demands aren’t met

Roy Keane reckons there is no chance Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Old Trafford unless he is playing regular first-team football and is worried that Erik Ten Hag can’t offer him that as he looks to sign a new striker.

Ten Hag is set to oversee a major rebuild with up to as many as 12 players departing the club in what will be a busy transfer window for the Red Devils. And the Portugal star could bring that number up to 13 with his future still up in the air.

Keane said: “I think he wants to play week in and week out and that will be the problem for the manager because he’s probably looking and going ‘I’ll probably have to rotate you in certain games. But Ronaldo won’t be hanging around unless he’s playing week in and week out.”

Ten Hag to implement strict rules

New Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag is set to arrive at Old Trafford with a lofty reputation having reportedly been an authoritarian with former club Ajax.

It of course remains to be seen whether ten Hag will be a success at Old Trafford considering the huge rebuild ahead of him this summer, but it appears that he will attempt to get the United dressing room in order.

According to ESPN, the current crop of players have already been getting insight into the Dutchman’s work from former Red Devils Daley Blind. As per the reports, the Ajax star has detailed ten Hag’s strict rules, as well as his ruthless streak when it comes to tactical decisions.
