Tottenham Hotspur could be set to miss out on signing Leicester City’s James Maddison with bitter rivals Arsenal also said to be keen on signing the midfielder.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form for his club this season with 13 goals and nine assists in all competitions. That has led to reports in The Sun suggesting that both Tottenham and Arsenal are long-term admirers of the playmaker and could make a move for him in the summer window.

But Arsenal could have a crucial advantage in the race for Maddison’s signature. It comes as Son Heung-min has called Hugo Lloris ‘superman’ following his performance against Aston Villa. And Spurs’ Premier League fixtures have been compared to their rivals in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

Fixtures compared

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur have opened up a three-point lead on north London rivals Arsenal as both clubs battle for the final Champions League qualification spot in the Premier League.

Spurs secured a 4-0 win over Aston Villa hours after the Gunners fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton. It means Tottenham have taken a huge step towards Champions League qualification, although Arsenal have one game in hand but a 10-goal deficit to try and make up.

Lloris claim made

Tottenham Hotspur hat-trick hero Son Heung-min has heaped praise on goalkeeper Hugo Lloris following his performance against Aston Villa.

The Spurs captain made a string of impressive saves in the first half as Spurs went in at the interval 1-0 up. And Son has said Lloris “saved” the side “like Superman” despite his own heroics as the South Korean forward netted an impressive three goals.

And football.london reports that the Spurs striker said his side may have lost had it not been for Lloris’ display between the sticks.

Maddison transfer blow

Arsenal may have the advantage over Tottenham Hotspur as the bitter rivals battle it out to sign Leicester City’s James Maddison this summer.

Reports have suggested Spurs and Arsenal are both interested in the midfield playmaker ahead of the summer transfer window. But Maddison’s previous claims about Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka may suggest Maddison would be keen to play alongside the England star on a weekly basis at club level.
