“Around 6:15 p.m., a heavy truck towing a front-end loader collided with the overpass,” according to the Sûreté du Québec.
An accident on Marie-Victorin Blvd. eastbound forced the closure of several access ramps to and from the Champlain Bridge, Tuesday evening in Brossard.
“Around 6:15 p.m., a transport truck pulling a front-end loader collided with the overpass,” a representative from the Sûreté du Québec said.
Following the impact, the front-end loader fell from the truck, according to a statement, and a “major spill fell onto the road.”
Marie-Victorin Blvd. eastbound is currently closed, as are various ramps to and from the bridge.
Among the closures are the ramp from the bridge to Marie-Victorin Blvd. eastbound; the ramp from Marie-Victorin westbound to the Champlain northbound; and the ramp from the 10 eastbound to Marie-Victorin eastbound. Detours are in effect, causing traffic congestion.
The closures will last for an “undetermined” period, while personnel from the Ministère des transports du Québec “verify the integrity of the (bridge) structure,” according to the SQ.
